It is richly coloured, mainly figurative but combines realism with intuitive symbolism and pattern.

Marina Elphick's artwork is unique, she is Britain's leading portrait artist working in batik, also working in watercolour, charcoal, pastels, acrylics and oils. She takes commissions for portraits,  illustrates book covers, works from life, florals, Fantasy, landscapes. Marina Elphick’s vivid batik portraits soar up from the cloth with a vibrancy that is disarming and captivating .Marina’s work has a signature quality of depth and detail which sets it apart from other artist's work. Her portraits undoubtedly capture the likeness of their subjects, yet they go so much further in breathing life and personality into the images. Children, in particular, are portrayed with a sense of fun, coyness, mischief and innocence; whatever mood prevails, Marina captures it and imbues the cloth with it. Her backgrounds often have an almost mystical aspect which intrigue and entertain the eye, without detracting from the subject. Art Cards and greeting cards of Marina's designs are for sale.
